DO NOT ask for ANY ROMs. It is illegal to distribute ROMs of any sort. HIT+64 does not supply, or distribute ROMs. Asking for a ROM will result in immediate account suspension.

Getting Started

You have a wide variety of emulators to pick from to get started score running, however you will still be required to play on a 1.0, or Japanese version of Star Fox 64 to score run to avoid level caps of 511 per a level. You may choose which ever selection you'd like, as long as you follow the Community Rules.

Project64 (Windows)

A longstanding, easy-to-use emulator with simple setup process. Project64 has wide compatibility and supports plenty of plugins for customization.

Cons
  • Not as accurate as modern alternatives
  • Plugin system can cause inconsistent results
  • Past issues with bundled adware
  • Had malware issues in the past (claimed fixed)

Mupen64Plus (Cross-platform)

A very accurate emulator core with solid game compatibility. Mupen64Plus runs on many platforms and has strong community support with frequent updates.

Cons
  • No native GUI by default (command-line driven)
  • Setup is trickier than Project64
  • Requires additional frontends for best experience

RetroArch (Frontend with Mupen64Plus cores)

A unified frontend that can run N64 games through Mupen64Plus cores along with many other console emulators. Offers powerful features like shaders, netplay, and achievements.

A multi-system emulator with strong N64 support via Mupen64Plus core. Popular for tool-assisted speedruns (TAS) because of its advanced tools and debugging features.

Which Emulator Should You Choose?

For Beginners

Start with Project64 for its user-friendly interface and straightforward setup process.

For Accuracy

Choose Mupen64Plus or RetroArch with Mupen64Plus core for the most accurate emulation.

For Speedrunning/Scripting

Use BizHawk for tool-assisted speedruns and custom scripts (randomizers & twitch chat vs streamer)

For Multi-System Gaming

Select RetroArch if you want to emulate multiple consoles in one unified interface.
